Definition of library classification

Definition :
A library classification is a system of organisation of knowledge in which sources are arranged according to the classification scheme and orderd very systematically. Library classifications are a notational system that represents the order of topics in the classification and allows items to be stored in the order of classification.
From the Dictionary :
Library classifications is the system of arrangement of knowledge from library resources. There are various library classification system in use ( for example Dewey Decimal Classification System, Universal Decimal System) to order and arrange the library materials. [1]
From the Encyclopaedia :
The act or process of systematic arrangement in group on categories to established criteria. [2]
From the Textbook:
Classification means arrangement of things or idea into classes or groups according to one or more than one, of their distinguishing attributes. So book classification means arrangement of books according to one or more than one of the distinguishing attributes of books.
The terms 'book' is generally use very widely to mean all forms of document such as books, pamphlet, periodicals, manuscript, maps, charts, atlases and various kind of audio visual material.
Book or document classifications is indispensable for connection with libraries, book classification has become synonymous with library classification. [3]
Conclusion:
We use classification each & every moment of the life intentionally or unintentionally. Classification has always been the backbone of all library operations and without it library is definitely going to suffer in its resource and to find a perticular piece of information from unorganised heap of knowledge is almost impossible. The library classification is core instrument for organising and retrieval of the document stored in a library.
