DEFINITION FROM THE TEXTBOOK :-
"Library classification means arrangement of things or ideas into classes or groups according to one, or more than one, of their distinguishing attributes" . [Book classification by Dr. A.K. Ohdedar]
DEFINITION FROM THE DICTIONARY:-
Library classification; 1. the act or process of classifying
2. systematic arrangement in groups or categories according to established criteria.[Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary]
DEFINITION FROM ENCLYCLOPEDIA:-
"Library classification, system of arrangement adopted by a library to enable patrons to find its materials quickly and easily. Arranging similar things in some order according to some principle unites and controls information from various sources".[Encyclopedia Britannica]
CONCLUSION:-
"Library classification is a technique ,which helps in the proper organization and arrangement of documents and information in a systematic manner, so that the user can use sources of information effectively . The whole universe of knowledge is divided into several subject areas which are multi-dimensional in nature . Each classification scheme divides the universe of knowledge into different classes denoted by specific notations ,symbols, numbers and so on".
