Defination :
Library classification is the arranging of things according to likeness and unlikeness. It is the sorting and grouping of things, but in addition, classification of books is a knowledge classification with adjustments made necessary by the physical form of books.

From the textbook:
A library classification is a system of organization of knowledge in which sources are arranged according to the classification scheme and ordered very systematically. Library classifications are a notational system that represents the order of topics in the classification and allows items to be stored in the order of classification. Library classification systems group related materials together, typically arranged as a hierarchical tree structure.
(L.M. Chan 1994).

From the encyclopaedia:
library classification is a system of coding and organizing library materials (books, serials, audiovisual materials, computer files, mapsmanuscripts, realia) according to their subject and allocating a call number to that information resource. Similar to classification systems used in biology, bibliographic classification systems group entities that are similar together typically arranged in a hierarchical tree structure (assuming none-faceted system).(New world encyclopaedia).

From the dictionary:
Library classification is the arrangement of library materials in a systematic way, usually by subject matter, using a classification system such as the Dewey Decimal Classification or the Library of Congress Classification. (Merriam-Webster Dictionary, 2023)

Conclusion :
Library Classification can also be considered to be a process of putting books and other reading material on a subject in a logical sequence on the shelf, which could be of immense help to the users.
