Definition-                                                                                                                                                                           A Library classification is a system of knowledge organization by which library resources are arranged and ordered systematically.Library classifications use a notational system that represents the order of topics in the classification and allows items to be stored in that order.                                                                                                                                                     


From the Textbook-

 LIbrary classification we are cocerned with documents, and the aim is to arrange this in the most helpful and permanent order.  (Theory of Classification, Krishan Kumar )
                                                                                             
From the Encyclopedia-

               A library classification is a system of coding and organizing library materials (books, serials, audiovisual materials, computer files, maps , manuscripts,) according to their subject and       allocating a call number to that information resource.  ( New world Encyclopedia )

 Conclusion-

                    We use classification each & every moment of the life by intentionally or unintentionally. Classification has always been the backbone of all Library operations and without it, library is definitely going to suffer in its recourse and to find a particular piece of information from unorganized heap of knowledge is almost impossible.
